Sally Weale announced as Guardian's new education correspondent

Guardian News & Media yesterday announced that Sally Weale, currently the Guardian's Saturday features editor, will be taking up the position of education correspondent.

Joining the Guardian's newsroom in September, Weale will be responsible for reporting on all education-related issues and developments, as well as breaking original agenda-setting stories.

Weale began working at the Guardian in 1993 and has worked in a variety of writing and editing roles, including women's editor and editor of the Guardian's Family section, which she co-founded in 2005.

Speaking about her new role, Weale said: "I'm really pleased to be taking on this new role. It's a fascinating time in the world of education and I'm looking forward to a new challenge."

Sally Weale has been the Guardian's Saturday features editor for the past four years. Before that she co-founded and edited the Guardian's Family section. She has also been the Guardian's women's editor and has held a variety of writing and editing roles.

Prior to joining the Guardian she was chief reporter at the Press Association.
