UK launch: New Philosopher

New Philosopher, published by Pineapple Media, had its UK newsstand launch last week, on 29 October. It is a quarterly publication with a cover price of £5.99.

According to distributors COMAG: New Philosopher is pleased to announce the UK launch of its highly acclaimed newsstand magazine.

Launched in 2013, the popular philosophy magazine was a runaway success in Australian bookstores and newsstands, and regularly sits atop the bestsellers’ lists. Following the US launch in 2014 New Philosopher was nominated by the New York Post as one of the top magazines to get you thinking alongside New Yorker and Scientific American. Specifically aimed at the general public, New Philosopher boasts an outstanding line-up of British writers, including author and television personality Will Self, Booker Prize Winner DBC Pierre, The Guardian’s Oliver Burkeman, technology theorist and author Tom Chatfield, and popular Philosophy Bites podcasters Nigel Warburton and David Edmonds,

The UK launch edition ‘Famous for $15’ analyses fame from a philosophical perspective - covering topics such as the desire to be remembered, online fame, infamy, longing to be seen and heard, and being ‘unfamous’. The 132-page UK launch issue features essays, quotes, art, existential comics, an interview with and photographs by renowned Scottish celebrity photographer Harry Benson, and an interview with psychologist Sue Bloland Erikson about growing up as the daughter of the famous psychoanalyst Erik Erikson.

Zan Boag, editor of New Philosopher, said, “The rising popularity of ‘thinking’ festivals and the growing list of bestselling philosophy books indicates that philosophy is booming. Philosophy is about learning how to think critically, analysing how we are to live, and delving into the fundamental nature of reality and existence. Who isn’t looking for the answer to the question, ‘What is the meaning of life?’”

New Philosopher is an independent quarterly magazine devoted to exploring philosophical ideas from past and present thinkers on ways to live a more fulfilling life. Commentary on New Philosopher aims to guide readers into living a happier and freer mode of existence.
