EUP releases annual report
Nicola Ramsey: “This success is the result of the commitment of everyone at EUP.”

Edinburgh University Press (EUP) reports as follows:

There has been growth across all areas of the business:

  • 9% growth in print book sales
  • 42% increase in rights revenue
  • 8% rise in journals subscriptions
  • Surplus returned against a budgeted loss

2024-25 can be characterised as a year of challenge, resilience and, ultimately, success. While the first six months saw contracting sales in an uncertain market we began to see bright shoots in early spring, ending the year with growth in all areas of the business and overall growth of 6% on last year.

Our main focus this year has been on delivering on our business-critical priorities. Highlights include a successful journals platform migration, with an accessible, user-friendly interface; our brilliant colleagues winning awards and being recognised for their publishing talent; attending 35 academic conferences across the UK, US and Europe, building our profile and making contacts across our subject areas; launching our EUP Publishing Internship, aimed at widening participation within the industry; beginning the adoption of a new production xml-first workflow for our books,; and addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by AI, including staff training, and developing AI policy and strategy.

Nicola Ramsey, chief executive, said: “This success is the result of the commitment of everyone at EUP: the entire team has worked incredibly hard to publish, market and sell our books and journals, exceeding expectations in the face of very challenging conditions. I am tremendously proud to count these people as my colleagues.”
