NowGamer gets new editor in chief

Imagine Publishing has announced a major reshuffle of its editorial staff, with games industry veteran, Nick Jones, appointed Editor in Chief of the online videogames portfolio.

Effective immediately, Nick Jones (pictured above) will oversee NowGamer.com and the NowGamer Network, and will be responsible for future development in the online gaming portfolio.

The move comes at the end of a highly successful year for Imagine’s videogames magazine portfolio, says the publisher, including leading independent titles Play and X360, which both recorded record year on year sales in the face of tough market conditions. Jones’ remit on NowGamer.com is to continue to build traffic, raise its profile within the industry, and to enhance the editorial output. Editor in Chief, Aaron Asadi, will manage Play and PowerStation in the future, while Editor in Chief, Rick Porter, takes the reins of 360 in addition to games, X360 and Retro Gamer.

Nick Jones commented: “I’ve worked in print publishing for nearly 13 years now, and I’m excited by the opportunity of working in a different media and the challenge and potential it presents. Being a part of the original launch team on NowGamer.com gives me a head start in achieving my goals with the website: to provide our readers with high quality editorial, exploiting the potential of new media and using my experience in magazine journalism to improve all aspects of the website and bring in some fresh ideas. All this will help achieve my immediate goal which is to grow the website’s burgeoning readership.”

NowGamer.com is an important venture for Imagine,” Jones continued: “and one that we are taking very seriously. Even though we only launched the site in February 2009, with the backing of Imagine’s magazine portfolio, and with a dedicated website team in place, I feel that NowGamer.com has the potential to be the UK’s number one videogame website. That’s what I’m aiming for, but it’s going to take the full support of the games industry and a lot of hard work to achieve it.”
