The Scranton Times-Tribune is live on Polopoly as of May 11, 2009. Over the coming weeks, Times-Shamrock will roll out Polopoly across all the other websites for its seven dailies and 11 weekly publications.
Polopoly is powering more than 1,000 live websites for newspapers, magazines and broadcasters around the world, according to Atex. Times-Shamrock joins this list, and is the first hosted Polopoly solution delivered by Atex in North America.
In searching for a new web content management system, Times-Shamrock was compelled by key functionality such as the easy content creation within Polopoly and the tight integration with its Atex HermesTM editorial system.
“Polopoly allowed us to remove technical hurdles to multi-media publishing within our newsrooms,” said Kathy Schwartz, general manager, Times-Shamrock Interactive. “Our strategy is to find tools to empower our newsrooms to publish wherever and whenever our readers demand so that the content producers can focus on content and not technology. Atex’s Polopoly solution and their development team is top notch and helped us meet our goals.”
“What we’ve especially gained with Polopoly is a way to seamlessly publish web content from our existing print workflow, while adding customized control for each platform,” said Jeff Sonderman, Times-Tribune’s metro editor and Internet content director. “This increases our ability to serve our community and enables us to better compete in the digital space.”
“The Scranton website showcases how Atex is able to create an integrated environment for sharing content across print and digital channels, enabling a higher degree of interactivity with the local community through commenting, blogs, and community coverage in picture and video,” said Scott Roessler, Atex America CEO. “Atex has long been known for supplying systems to the largest media companies around the world. We’re excited because this Times-Shamrock deal also shows that our hosted model can deliver the rich functionality demanded at the high end, at a price point that can be justified by mid-size publishers.”
