Gary Cullum

Hyper local newspaper publisher Gary Cullum is a director of The Newspaper Awards and has been chairman of the event’s judging panels for 28 years. 

Gary is the editor and publisher of Villager Newspapers in Hertfordshire and has worked in the newspaper industry, including on behalf of the News Media Association, and formerly The Newspaper Society, for 47 years.

He was editor and publisher of the industry’s print technology monthly newspaper, Production Journal, for almost 30 years and part of an NS team that produced nine editions of The Daily Leader, which claimed to be the world’s first fully electronically produced newspaper, at industry show Newstec in Brighton in 1983. 

He began his journalistic career chasing fire engines on the Hemel Hempstead Gazette in the late 1970s.
