Archant launches augmented reality digital app

Archant Lifestyle’s digital team has released a new augmented reality app to bring the pages of print, digital and app publications to life.

The experience, which was launched in the December issue of Lancashire Life magazine, offers extra hidden content including videos and photo galleries.

The Archant AR app - which can be downloaded free of charge from the app store - enables the camera on the reader’s phone or tablet to detect extra content on pages of the publication marked with the Archant AR symbol.

The December edition of Lancashire Life contains over 20 AR symbols on both editorial content and advertisements, bringing the whole magazine to life with additional videos, photo galleries, extra information and links, says Archant.

The augmented reality technology will be rolled out across all Archant Lifestyle print publications in 2014.

Archant Lifestyle’s Digital Director, Wayne Morgan said: “Launching the Archant AR augmented reality app to the market is a huge achievement. Archant are one of the first media groups to roll out this technology, putting us a step ahead in an increasingly digital industry.”

The iOS version of the app can be downloaded from the iTunes store or the android version can be downloaded from the Google Play store.
