Digital Spy passes 20 million unique browsers

Digital Spy, the showbiz, entertainment and tech website published by Hearst Magazines UK, has passed the 20 million unique user mark.

Digital Spy has grown by 62% year on year (Jan 2012 – Jan 2013), adding 5 million additional browsers since October 2012 with monthly page views reaching 163,828,512 million.

Reporting significant growth across its dedicated Tech, Games, Movies and Music channels, Digital Spy is now second only in its competitor set to the MailOnline, says Hearst.

According to the publishers, the ongoing popularity of the website is powered by unrivalled user engagement and an expert editorial team that breaks news 24/7 whilst producing interviews and features with the hottest stars in global entertainment. Video streams are up 100% year on year with more than 24 million views in 2012.

Digital Spy integrates wide-ranging editorial content (including news, video, blogs, galleries, interviews, polls, reviews and TV recaps) with buzzing forums and social media. Boasting more than 500,000 registered users the site’s forums are one of the top 25 busiest in the world. Digital Spy regularly receives over 20,000 user comments per day.

75% of all traffic comes from the UK with the average user staying on the website for an impressive 7 minutes, up 40% on 5 minutes in 2012. One-third of all traffic visits more than 50 times per month.

Digital Spy Editor David Moynihan says, “We are thrilled with the growing success of Digital Spy. Our award-winning content and record user numbers confirm our position as the most exciting, must-read entertainment website in the UK.”

Hearst Magazines UK Digital Strategy Director, Rebecca Miskin, says: “Breaking the 20 million unique browser threshold demonstrates why Digital Spy continues to flourish as the UK’s leading showbiz, entertainment and tech website. Our unique ability to engage wide-reaching audiences online and across social networks means we are the premium entertainment brand for partners looking for creative and impactful advertising solutions.”
