Egmont acquire Hello Kitty Magazine rights

Egmont Publishing Group, the leading publisher of books and magazines for babies – teen, has signed a deal with Sanrio to publish the Hello Kitty Magazine.

The new magazine, featuring the iconic Japanese character will launch on 8th August this year. Aimed at girls aged 5 to 8, the magazine will be packed full of Hello Kitty activities and stories and will publish monthly, with a cover price of £2.99.

The Hello Kitty character first launched in Japan in 1974 and first appeared in the USA in 1976 and the UK soon after. With a strong brand identity, Hello Kitty is instantly recognisable by the bold art style. The magazine will utilise the beautiful Hello Kitty artwork with immersive pictorial content and fun stories, making the most of the fresh colour palette of lively, bright colours.

Egmont is the No. 1 magazines publisher in the primary girls market with a 30% market share and 4 titles in the top 10, including the much coveted No. 1 position for Disney Princess. As the experts in publishing for girls, Hello Kitty will be a welcome addition to the Egmont portfolio."

Egmont already successfully publishes Hello Kitty magazine in 13 territories, the UK will make 14.

Hello Kitty Magazine already has comprehensive listings however Egmont intend to target growth in key accounts including: Tesco, ASDA, Morrison's, Sainsbury's and Co-op with supporting trade marketing and promotional activity.
