ELLE appoints new Creative Director

ELLE UK has appointed award-winning US Creative Director, Suzanne Sykes, to lead the creative direction of the brand in the UK.

Suzanne (pictured), who is currently Creative Director for US Marie Claire, has a wealth of digital and publishing experience in both the UK and US. She joined Marie Claire US in 2007 to re-design the magazine and reposition it for core fashion advertising. She was also responsible for developing the brand’s extensions on tablet, web and creating an app for the magazine and standalone apps for Chanel and L’Oreal Paris.

Before joining Marie Claire, Suzanne was the launch creative director for British weekly glossy, Grazia. Prior to this, Suzanne ran her own consultancy creative business and in 1999 was commissioned by the Mirror Group to create a weekly woman’s magazine called M, which won supplement of the year at the Press awards in its first year.

She began her career as Creative Director for the award winning and ground-breaking launch of UK Marie Claire in 1989.

Suzanne has won numerous awards including a D&AD yellow pencil, PPA and MDA design awards for Grazia; SPD and Folio awards for Marie Claire; and ASME and SPD nomination for Marie Claire's fashion app.

The appointment to ELLE UK underpins the brand strategy to work across all platforms of content, and reunites Editor-in-chief, Lorraine Candy, with Suzanne after they worked together at British Marie Claire.

Announcing the appointment today, ELLE UK Editor-in-chief, Lorraine Candy: "I am excited to be welcoming such an experienced and talent Creative Director to ELLE UK at such a crucial time in the brand’s evolving success. Suzanne has unrivalled experience across print and digital and also an enviable contact book of photographers. She will create one visual voice for ELLE UK which leads the way in outstanding magazine design."

Suzanne replaces former ELLE UK Creative Director, Marissa Bourke who has been appointed Creative Director for luxury fashion brand, Harper’s Bazaar.
