A new team has been formed to transform the print editions of National World Plc’s city daily newspapers.

National World forms new team
Tim Robinson: “This is a really exciting opportunity to re-imagine the fortunes of the daily newspaper and to put the reader back at the heart of the creative journalistic process.”

The National World Daily Press Division will be led by newly appointed publisher Tim Robinson and managing editor Neil Pickford and will focus on reinvigorating the print editions of the following titles -

  • Edinburgh Evening News
  • The News, Portsmouth
  • Yorkshire Evening Post
  • Sheffield Star
  • Lancashire Post
  • Blackpool Gazette
  • Sunderland Echo
  • Shields Gazette

A dedicated team of press managers and content curators will work together across the portfolio of newspaper titles which cover a swathe of the major cities the length and breadth of the UK, says the publisher.

A new publishing model and set of print designs are being developed by this group. These will offer readers a comprehensive daily briefing in print, featuring an all-new presentation of the best content from National World writers, local and national opinion and must-read stories from our communities.

The new team will include senior press managers Mike Hill and Ian Arkle and local press editors Sarah Hall, Charles Smith, Helen Gourlay and Simon Carter.

They will work closely with National World’s central design hub and core content team to craft dynamically-presented papers each day of the week with the emphasis on exactly what - and how - people really want to read.

Publisher Tim Robinson said: “This is a really exciting opportunity to re-imagine the fortunes of the daily newspaper and to put the reader back at the heart of the creative journalistic process. “The new daily press team is made up of a wealth of experienced regional journalists who care passionately about newspapers and the people who read them.

“And there will be a host of new opportunities for our advertisers and corporate sponsors to reach a highly engaged audience in new, innovative ways.”
