Guardian promotes Steadman and Lawrence

Guardian News & Media (GNM) has promoted Bob Steadman and Brett Lawrence to new positions in its print operation.

Bob Steadman, currently Director of Production, Distribution and Circulation at GNM, is promoted to Director of Newspaper Operations. Bob will have overall operational responsibility for print products and will focus on building new revenues, establishing a long-term strategy for print, retail delivery and supply chain management.

Brett Lawrence, currently General Manager of Newspaper operations, is promoted to Director of Production, Newspapers, reporting to Bob. Brett will manage GNM's recently restructured print centres and continue its record of producing award-winning, innovative, print products. He will also assume responsibility for growing our third-party print business which most recently saw GNM printing for a Chinese language paper through the Olympics.

Sheila Fitzsimons, executive director, GNM, said: "Our digital first strategy has enabled the Guardian and The Observer to build huge audiences. In July we became the third most read newspaper website in the world, with over 30 million readers a month. However, print remains the source of three-quarters of our revenue and given its importance it is vital we keep a relentless focus on it and our position as the most read quality newspaper brand in the UK with 5.8 million readers a week across digital and print.

"Bob and Brett have long been recognised as leading lights in the British print industry and I am delighted that they have accepted the challenge of broader remits and greater responsibility for the future of our print operations."
