Hearst appoints new Editor-In-Chief for Red

Hearst Magazines UK, Hearst Corporation’s principal business in the UK, has announced the appointment of former Harper’s Bazaar UK Deputy Editor, Sarah Bailey, to the role of Editor-in-Chief of Red.

Sarah (pictured), who replaces former Editor-in-chief Sam Baker, joins Red from Hearst-owned Bazaar where she has held the role of Deputy Editor for the past five years. She joins Red on February 12.

Prior to joining Harper’s Bazaar UK, Sarah was based in New York as Deputy Editor-in-chief at Harper’s Bazaar US, working alongside Editor-in-chief, Glenda Bailey. She has also held several high profile roles at Hearst-owned ELLE UK including Editor, Editor-At-Large and Associate Editor and was also Launch Editor of ELLEgirl UK in 2001. Sarah began her career as a feature writer for IPC Magazines before working her way up to Editor for Just Seventeen magazine in the mid 90s.

Sarah will oversee the editorial direction of Red, which, says Hearst, is the UK’s leading luxury magazine brand with a combined print and digital circulation of 228,386, and report into Red’s Publishing Director, Ella Dolphin.

Hearst UK’s Chief Executive, Arnaud de Puyfontaine, says: “I’m very pleased that we have been able to appoint someone from within the Hearst stable to this high profile role. Sarah has proven herself to be an exceptional editor, writer and team player during her time at Harper’s Bazaar and I’m confident she will bring the same enthusiasm and passion to her new role at Red. I’d also like to thank Sam Baker for her editorship and dedication to Red over the past six years.”

Red’s Publishing Director, Ella Dolphin says: “Sarah has excellent credentials as a creative and dynamic editor, a brilliant team leader with strong contacts in the fashion and beauty industries which are of huge importance to Red. I am delighted to welcome Sarah to Red and excited to see the results of her new editorship and vision.”

Sarah Bailey says: "Red is an absolutely wonderful brand which I have admired since its launch. I am thrilled to be joining it and look forward to working with the talented Red team."
