Helensburgh Advertiser Launches Mobile App

The Helensburgh Advertiser is the latest local newspaper to launch a free mobile app with local news and sport.

As reported by the Newspaper Society: Local media publishers such as Newsquest, Archant, Johnston Press and the Rotherham Advertiser, have been launching tablet and smartphone apps to bring news and information to readers over the platforms.

Available on iPhone, Android, Windows and some Blackberries, the Advertiser’s app service is sponsored by Helensburgh Toyota.

The Advertiser said it was Scotland's first mobile app for a weekly newspaper. Users can download it from the newspaper's website or by scanning a QR Code printed in the newspaper which directs users straight to a download link.

Martin Little, managing editor of the Romanes Media Group's Scottish Weeklies, said: "We are the first publishers of weekly newspapers in Scotland to invest in apps and I am sure these will prove an exciting product to support our newspapers and their websites.

"The investment shows our commitment to being a multi-platform news provider in our communities and is the first stage in a series of innovative digital products being developed by Romanes Media Group."
