MNA appoints new Shropshire Star editor

The Midland News Association has appointed Martin Wright as the new editor for the Shropshire Star.

Martin Wright (pictured), 36, who is currently associate editor at NWN Media, will take over the role on May 6.

Based at the Shropshire Star’s head office in Ketley, Telford, Martin will be responsible for managing the evening newspaper editorial team across nine offices, along with the management of the portfolio of 12 weekly newspapers.

Brought up in Oswestry, Martin worked for the Shropshire Star as a reporter before moving to be the deputy editor at the County Times in Mid Wales.

He edited the Oswestry and Border Counties Advertizer and the County Times before becoming deputy editor for Leader and Cheshire Publications.

Martin has worked in his current role since 2009, having responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Leader, which covers Wrexham, Flintshire and Chester, along with its weekly titles.

Martin said: “I am looking forward to editing the newspaper for the area where I grew up.

“I will be bringing extensive experience of developing engaging content for readers. I welcome the opportunity to build upon this experience at the Shropshire Star.”

Current Shropshire editor Keith Harrison is moving to the MNA’s Wolverhampton headquarters to replace Adrian Faber as editor of the Express & Star.

Mr Faber, who has been editor since 2002, is to leave the MNA on Friday March 29.

MNA managing director Phil Inman said: “Martin’s appointment is an important move for the MNA.

“I am looking forward to Martin continuing Keith’s work in developing the structure and content of our portfolio across Shropshire.”
