Newsagents Welcome Media Scotland Boost

Scottish members of the NFRN have welcomed price increases on a number of local newspaper titles published by Media Scotland, which have been accompanied by pro rata retail terms.

Scottish President Robert Baillie said: “This is a great confidence booster for independent newsagents. We are pleased that Media Scotland recognises the importance of NFRN members by bringing in these cover price rises and rewarding the retailer with pro rata terms.  Such a move is crucial in these days of ever increasing overheads so  I will be urging members to give all the titles involved their full support.”

Chairman of the NFRN’s News Operations Committee Colin Fletcher added: “We are pleased our Scottish members finally have something to be cheerful about. We are very mindful that overall they continue to receive a less than desirable service due to contract changes by the regional press, print press moves and unacceptable delivery times particularly in the more Northern parts.”

The newspaper titles which have seen cover price increases include the Hamilton Advertiser, East Kilbride News, the Ayrshire Post and the Irvine Herald.
