Newsstand Launch: Gridiron

Gridiron, the eight times a year magazine for British fans of American Football, published by TriNorth, has its newsstand launch of November, priced at £5.

According to distributors COMAG Specialist: Even before the Miami Dolphins played the New York Giants at Wembley Stadium in 2007, American Football was a popular sport in the UK on late night TV, but with live matches played here in recent years, the sport has gained many more fans on this side of the pond.

According to the National Football League (NFL), more than 12m people in the UK have watched the 11 games played at Wembley Stadium on TV since 2007 and there are currently more than 2.5m avid British fans of the NFL in Britain, a 30% increase since 2011.

Now a fixture on the British sporting calendar and with an average attendance of 82,600 fans, more than 900,000 people have watched one of the 11 live games played in the UK.

Previously only available through subscription, Gridiron is the UK’s only American Football magazine and is supported by the NFL UK, in partnership with Sky Sports.

Building on the success of the three recent Wembley games, Gridiron is launching on the newsstand for the first time to capitalise on the growing popularity of the sport in the UK.

With eight issues per year, which coincide with the NFL season that ends with the Super Bowl in February, Gridiron is produced by UK based staff and aimed at domestic fans.

Featuring all the news and match reviews from the NFL, as well as exclusive interviews with players and coaches, every issue of Gridiron also has the thoughts of respected pundits.

With up-to-date information about the NFL and U.S. college football, Gridiron also has news about Britain’s developing domestic American football scene.

Launching on the newsstand with issue No.11, this edition of Gridiron will review the recent Wembley games; look at the current NFL season in the U.S., as well as an exclusive interview with former NFL star Ronnie Lott about his long and distinguished career.
