Industry charity NewstrAid has announced it will be hosting its awareness initiative ‘Woolly Wednesday’ for a second year in order to shine a light on the help it offers to those struggling to stay warm and pay their bills this winter.
Woolly Wednesday asks industry colleagues to help raise awareness about the charity by simply pledging their support via social media on Wednesday 1st November 2023 and using the hashtag #WoollyWednesday.
Neil Jagger, CEO for NewstrAid, said: “By asking our friends and colleagues from the trade to pledge their support for NewstrAid via social media on November 1st, we hope to spread the word as widely as possible about the support we have available during the winter months.”
Full details of how to take part in Woolly Wednesday, including some suggested text and an image to download, can be found on the NewstrAid website here.
In addition to posting a message on social media, supporters are also being encouraged to buy a ticket for NewstrAid’s online raffle to help raise money for the charity’s work.
Neil Jagger added: “If social media isn’t really your thing, you can also support our work by entering our Christmas Raffle which is being officially launched on Woolly Wednesday (1st November) and includes the chance to win a number of great prizes. Full entry details can be found here.”
So far this year, NewstrAid says it has helped nearly 200 households with a Cost of Living Crisis Fund grant and earlier this year, awarded nearly 400 winter booster payments to existing beneficiaries. The Woolly Wednesday initiative will coincide with the charity’s distribution of a Winter Comfort Grant which will help around 400 newstrade colleagues to stay warm during the colder months. In total, NewstrAid has paid out over £137,000 to support those struggling with fuel bills and the cost of living during 2023.
