NFRN applauds Courier move

The National Federation of Retail Newsagents has praised DC Thomson’s Courier for maintaining pro rata margins for retailers after its recent price rise.

The NFRN says: Whilst the NFRN will always condemn publishers who attack retailers’ margins, we are equally happy to give praise where praise is due to publishers who accompany price increases with pro rata margins for retailers.

Such was the case this week with the Courier, who in announcing a new magazine in its Saturday issue, advised that its Saturday cover price would increase to 70p with a pro rata margin increase for retailers.

Commenting on this news, NFRN National President, Colin Fletcher said: “At a time when others in our trade seem hell bent on putting retailers out of business, it is refreshing to find one publisher who understands the need to maintain pro rata terms so that retailers can keep pace with ever-increasing costs. I thank the Courier for its support and have no hesitation in urging my members in Fife, Perth, Angus, Dundee and Central to pull out all the stops to help D C Thomson’s Courier to develop its sales.
