NFRN praises Guardian

The Guardian is set to raise the price of its Monday to Friday and Saturday newspapers, accompanied by pro rata terms.

The NFRN says: From January 12 2013 the cover price of the Monday to Friday edition will rise to £1.40 while the Saturday edition will increase to £2.30. This will give retailers an extra 4.8p on the daily edition and an extra 4.72p a copy on Saturdays.

This means that both the daily and Saturday papers offer newsagents the highest pence per copy sold in the broadsheet market.

The publisher has also pledged to work closely with the NFRN in 2013, following the successful promotional activity in 2012 and a new marketing campaign will break early in the year.

Applauding the Guardian for its positive stance, NFRN National President Alan Smith (pictured) said: “Members will welcome this New Year cheer and full marks to the Guardian for recognising the pivotal role that newsagents play in selling its papers. With the Guardian giving retailers such strong backing for 2013, my New Year’s resolution is to reciprocate and I will be giving the Guardian my full support. I would urge all NFRN members to do so too!”
