Regional Press Awards – shortlists announced for 2016

Shortlists for the Society of Editors Regional Press Awards for 2016 have been announced.

The Regional Press Awards celebrate the best of British regional and local newspaper journalism in 2016 in print, online and any other news platform.

The awards will be handed out at a ceremony over lunch to be held at the Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel on Friday 19 May 2017. Tickets and tables can now be booked.

The Society of Editors, supported by Camelot since 2001, organises the awards on behalf of the industry. The awards are made possible by the key sponsorship of UK Power Networks and United Utilities and continuing partner sponsorship from JTI, IP Group, ASDA, PCS, Gorkana, Google and Foot Anstey. The Press Association, Hold the Front Page, News Media Association and the Journalists Charity support the Awards.

The event will also see the awarding of the Making a Difference ~ People’s Choice public vote organised by Local Media Works, part of News Media UK, for Local Newspaper Week.

The awards ceremony will be hosted by LBC radio presenter Nick Ferrari.

Chairman of the judges Paul Horrocks said: “Looking at the entries this year, the judges were incredibly impressed by the standard of campaigning undertaken in the newsrooms of the regional and local press. The sheer scale of newspaper teams bringing communities together was a genuine pleasure to see.

“The Society of Editors is delighted to be hosting the awards once again and we look forward to raising a glass with the best of the regional and local media at the lunchtime ceremony in May.”
