Sunday Mirror appoints top consumer campaigner as new columnist

The Sunday Mirror has appointed top UK lawyer and consumer rights campaigner Dean Dunham as the paper’s first consumer rights columnist.

Dunham (pictured), founder of free advice website www.youandyourrights.co.uk, wrote his first column last weekend. Each week he will concentrate on breaking consumer news and day-to-day issues affecting consumers.

The column will cover advice on issues as diverse as payday loans, neighbours from hell to bailiffs and holiday horrors - it will be the first national newspaper column to offer sound legal advice on how consumers can fight back, say the publishers.

Alison Phillips, editor of the Mirror (weekends), said: “Dean is a great addition to the Sunday Mirror team as he is a passionate campaigner for consumer rights. His advice and expert understanding of the legal system will be invaluable for our readers, especially in these testing times.”

Dunham will also present a three minute Know Your Rights video every week which readers will be able to watch using QReader technology on their iPhone and Android mobiles.

This is the first time a national newspaper has used this technology in this way to help readers in these challenging times, claims the Mirror. The videos will also be available on Mirror.co.uk building the consumer advice content across all platforms.

As an active campaigner Dunham regularly appears on television offering consumers advice with recent appearances on Daybreak, BBC Breakfast, Watchdog and BBC Inside Out.
