The New European to switch to tabloid format

The New European on Friday announced its move to a tabloid newspaper format. Currently printed in a European-style ‘Berliner’ format, the move will take effect from July 13.

The title will also change its publication date to Thursday – it will be a bigger 64-page paper, printed by Archant in Norfolk. The price will stay the same across Europe.

Commenting on the changes, Matt Kelly, Editor, The New European, said: “We've asked our subscribers and they've told us it's not the size of the paper that matters but the fresh alternative to old established media. The New European will be smaller in size, bigger in pages and every bit as brilliant as it is today. Plus, you won't be knocking elbows with people on the bus or train when you read it."

Since launching in the aftermath of last June’s EU referendum, highlights have included appointing Alastair Campbell as Editor-at-large (as well as securing the exclusive serialisation rights to the latest volume of Alastair’s diaries) and appointing Michael White as Election Editor and Iain Dale as Election Diarist. The paper has also run exclusive contributions from Tony Blair, Bonnie Greer and Hardeep Singh Kohli.

The paper has also won a number of awards since its launch including the Chairman’s Award at this year’s Press Awards and Launch of the year at the British Media Awards.
