The Independent, a global news organization, has announced the return of its acclaimed Climate 100 List. Now in its third year, the list will recognize 100 of the most influential, visionary, and impactful figures around the world working to fight climate change and accelerate climate justice, sustainability, and environmental innovation, says the publisher.
The Independent Climate 100 List 2026 will be published online in September, aligning with both NYC Climate Week and the United Nations General Assembly, and marked by a high-profile invitation-only event on Tuesday, 22 September in New York, added the publisher. Hosted by Editor-in-Chief Geordie Greig, the event will bring together changemakers from business, science, policy, and activism for a day of storytelling, connection, and debate.
The event’s keynote address will be delivered by David Miliband, President and CEO of the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and the UK's former Foreign Secretary. Miliband leads the IRC's humanitarian operations in more than 40 crisis-affected countries, where drought, flooding, and extreme heat increasingly compound conflict and force people from their homes.
This year’s list will feature a varied mix of new honorees alongside returning figures from 2025 who have made significant progress over the past year, the publisher continued. Representing a wide range of sectors—including tech, policy, science, activism, media, arts & fashion, food, and business—the 2026 Climate 100 will amplify the efforts of those shaping a more sustainable and equitable future. The List, as in previous years, will also include five honorees nominated by Independent readers.
