Trinity Mirror unearths treasure trove of local images

Trinity Mirror has released a series of nostalgia magazines featuring collections of lost photographs capturing the history of Britain in words, pictures and headlines going back over 150 years.

As part of its media heritage project, Trinity Mirror has unearthed thousands of pictorial treasures that have remained untouched for several decades. These images have now been brought to life in a series of glossy magazines.

The project began earlier this year, after it was announced Trinity Mirror was to centralise all of its photographic archives into its existing library in Watford.

Entitled ‘Frame by Frame’, the eight magazines offer a snapshot of the modern history of Britain’s towns and regions through the eye of a lens. Scenes from the 19th and 20th century are captured in Birmingham, Coventry, Huddersfield, Manchester, Newcastle, North Wales, South Wales and Teesside.

Each magazine contains more than 150 images of ordinary people at work and play. From steam railways and seaside fun in North Wales, to Birmingham's massive manufacturing industries, the publications capture a bygone era.

More magazines and a series of digital editions are planned for release by the end of the year, capitalising on the network of Trinity Mirror centres across the UK.

Ken Rogers, Managing Director, Trinity Mirror Sport Media, said: “We’re delighted to bring to life the treasure trove that is Trinity Mirror’s photographic archives for the benefit of our readers.

“We fully understand the value of our combined library resources that capture the history of Britain in words, pictures and headlines going back over 150 years.

“We have been utilising the strengths of our archives more than any other newspaper group, and will continue to do so throughout this year as we roll out the remaining magazines in print and digital form.”

The magazines have launched with a high profile marketing campaign through editorial with advertisements placed in each region to promote their branded magazines to their loyal readers.

The magazines are available - RRP £4.99 - in WH Smiths, local newsagents and on the Mirror Collection website: www.mirrorcollection.co.uk.
