Business Insider launches UK site

Business Insider, one of the world’s fastest-growing news brands, officially debuts in the UK today at uk.businessinsider.com.

Business Insider UK offers real-time news targeted to the British and European business audience and is the company’s 7th international version. The flagship New York-based global hub, businessinsider.com, already has impressive UK market penetration, with 3 million unique monthly UK visitors, per Google Analytics (Oct. 2014). The flagship site has 55 million UVs globally.

According to the publishers, the Business Insider brand is renowned for its obsessive style of business and tech coverage that combines original reporting, news aggregation and fearless commentary. The company’s pioneering digital-first approach to news places social and mobile at its core and is rooted in how business leaders today consume information.

Business Insider UK focuses on four core verticals: Finance, Tech, Politics and Strategy. It closely tracks in real-time the international finance news making waves in the City, as well as the most exciting and innovative technology companies, start-ups and tech hubs across London, Europe and beyond. With the upcoming UK elections, the site covers the key political news and analysis that reflect and impact the country’s fast-changing business environment.

The London-based venture is led by Managing Director Julian Childs. Founding Editor Jim Edwards, a veteran journalist and editor, oversees the newsroom, and Dina Spector is London Editor. Other senior editors and reporters include: Michael Bird, who joins the UK site from City A.M., reporting on finance and business strategy; tech reporter James Cook, who joins from the The Daily Dot, a US-based technology site; Tomas Hirst, political reporter and former editor of the World Economic Forum; and Lara O’Reilly, who joins as Global Advertising Editor from Marketing Week.

Henry Blodget, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of Business Insider said: “We’re bullish about launching a UK version of Business Insider. We believe there’s a void in the marketplace for our digital-first approach to news aimed at business leaders of today and tomorrow. It’s an especially exciting time for us to dive into this market, as the UK and the continent remain pivotal players in international affairs and business.”

Julian Childs, Managing Director of Business Insider UK said: "We are excited to bring to UK and Europe the unique kind of news that has become our brand’s trademark: punchy, fearless and conversational.”

The Business Insider flagship site already has an extensive following in Europe. Per comScore, it ranks #2 among all English-language business outlets in Europe, it is the top English language business site in France and second most popular business site in Germany, say the publishers.

For advertisers, the site is available directly through its UK sales office, via private marketplace, which is run in partnership with Rubicon, and on the open exchange.
