Dennis restructures app development team

Dennis Publishing has promoted two of its key team members to head up its in-house app development team, Dennis Media Factory.

Dennis Publishing says: Clementine Vioux will step-up to Head of Product for Apps and Sally Shepard will become Head of App Development. The news follows the departure of Alex Watson, who helped set-up the department in 2010.

The Dennis Media Factory team, that recently took home the Development Team of the Year at the 2013 Digital PPA Awards, has pioneered a high-margin, multi-platform approach to publishing digital editions. The team has combined open-source and third party platforms with its own custom code and design, mixing native iOS and Android code with responsive HTML to create feature-rich, paid content products across all major smartphones and tablets. The team has also developed its own COPE (Create Once, Publish Everywhere) strategy across the portfolio of interactive apps, ensuring that all apps are sustainable and scalable and allowing simultaneous launch across multiple devices.

Most recently, the team has founded the innovative freemium model for apps with the launch of the new evo app on iPad, iPhone, Android and Kindle Fire. The ground-breaking app combines the best of print and digital to provide the ultimate experience for readers – a model Dennis Media Factory believes is the future for magazine apps, fitting readers habits and preferences rather than asking them to fit the publishers’.

Clementine Vioux, who joined Dennis’ in-house app development team in 2012, takes on the new role with over five years experience as a mobile product manager under her belt. Her work was pivotal in the launch of the successful Cyclist and evo apps. Sally Shepard who has been part of the team at Dennis since 2012, moves up to Head of App Development from her role as iOS Tech Lead which saw her manage the development of Men’s Fitness iPad app as well as the evo app. She is the driving force behind the technical team in the Dennis Media Factory.

“I’m delighted that Clementine and Sally will be taking over the Dennis Media Factory reigns.” Said Martin Belson, Managing Director of Dennis Enterprise. “They have been integral parts of the team, working closely with Alex Watson to expand and develop the team that have gone to win awards for their forward-thinking work within the app and publishing industry. This is an exciting time for Dennis Media Factory who has a clear brief –continue to roll-out the COPE strategy across all of the Dennis brands and develop new products for 2014.”
