Newsquest says The South Wales Argus was named Daily Newspaper of the Year and the Western Telegraph won Weekly Newspaper of the Year at the ceremony in Cardiff on Friday evening, November 15.

Gavin Thompson, regional editor for Wales and editor of the Argus, said: “This was a fantastic result for teams in Newport and Haverfordwest who produce the Argus and the Telegraph, and the business as a whole.

“Whilst our digital audiences go from strength to strength, continual improvement of our print newspapers also remains an absolute focus for us. This double win – alongside improving circulation trends – shows that the hard work by everyone involved is getting results.”

The annual Wales Media Awards is run by the Journalists Charity. Around 200 guests attended the event at Cardiff’s Parkgate Hotel, which was hosted by the BBC’s Lucy Owen and ITV’s Jonathan Hill.
