ELLE UK launches fashion photographic exhibition

ELLE UK has partnered with London’s Somerset House, the home of London Fashion Week, to launch a unique exhibition of 20 images featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes access to designers including Tom Ford, Mulberry, Christopher Kane, and Erdem as they prepare for their catwalk shows.

ELLE UK-This is LONDON project, on display in Somerset House during London Fashion Week and London Fashion Weekend from 13 – 22 September, brings the most unique, surprising and astonishing view of London Fashion Week ever, say publishers Hearst UK, as London’s biggest names allowed ELLE unprecedented access to their studios in the days (and nights) before their shows to capture what really happens.

Photographed by Yara De Nicola, This is LONDON captures every emotion in the raw in a stunning reportage portfolio and features unseen and ‘secret moments’ of designers at work including Tom Ford, Christopher Kane, Richard Nicoll, Henry Holland, J.W Anderson, Jonathan Saunders, Erdem and Roksanda Ilincic. One of the world’s most photographed models, Cara Delevingne, also appears in several shots.

According to Hearst, the exhibition, edited from more than 400 shots taken over a four day period from the early hours of the morning to late at night, includes ‘Stolen Moments’, powerfully honest, that reveal the truth in the making of fashion, from the pensiveness of the night before, to the pure adrenaline of backstage, exhaustion to elation and utter joy.

The exhibition was launched on Thursday September 12th with an invitation-only party at The Sanderson London.

The full This is LONDON portfolio appears across 35 pages in the October issue of ELLE magazine, on sale now, and is also downloadable on a separate app - This is London: The Making of London Fashion Week via iTunes from September 22. The app contains extra never-seen-before images from the shoots as well as videos of catwalk shows from each designer.

ELLE’s Editor-in-Chief, Lorraine Candy, says: “For the first time ever, ELLE has documented the making of London Fashion Week, gaining unprecedented access to designers and models backstage and further cementing our reputation as the leading fashion magazine in the UK. Never before has one photographer been allowed to witness these extraordinary moments and the result is a surprising, intimate and dynamic portfolio of the world's most influential fashion week.”
