FT appoints Robert Shrimsley Editorial Director

The Financial Times announces the appointment of Robert Shrimsley as Editorial Director, effective 1 May, in addition to his position as assistant editor.

In his new role, Shrimsley will oversee the development, presentation and promotion of content on FT.com across all departments, including news, features, comment, video and special projects.

Shrimsley has been the managing editor of FT.com since 2009, responsible for driving the FT’s digital news operation and the development of new forms of storytelling. He recently oversaw the editorial relaunch of FT.com.

FT editor Lionel Barber said: “Robert’s important move signals the next phase in the digital transformation of the FT. As Editorial Director, he will use our access to top quality data and insight to further boost reader engagement, with a special focus on the early planning stages of big editorial themes and projects.”

Shrimsley joined the FT from the Daily Telegraph 17 years ago and has worked as chief political correspondent, UK news editor, news editor and FT.com managing editor. In addition to his executive responsibilities he will continue to write his weekly Notebook and FT Magazine columns.
