These titles are English language journals currently self-published by The Japan Society of Applied Physics.
As a result of this agreement, the journals will be published under a partnership arrangement for the first time in their history. Both titles are highly regarded internationally for their breadth and coverage of the field of applied physics, collectively publishing over two thousand articles, review and letters a year. JJAP has been established for over 50 years.
The first papers to be published under the agreement are expected to be available online in December 2013. The extensive archive of over 65 thousand articles for both journals will also be made available on IOPscience (IOP Publishing’s online journal platform) in the coming months.
JSAP will continue to manage submissions, peer review and production for both titles and IOP Publishing will manage the sales, marketing and online hosting.
Makoto Konagai, President of The Japan Society of Applied Physics said: "We have been focused on globalising our activities and our decision to partner with IOP to publish JJAP and APEX is part of this strategy. JJAP and APEX both have a characteristic advantage in the field of applied physics and this partnership will give us even greater readership and increase the visibility of these two journals. In addition, I hope that partnering with IOP - a prestigious STM publisher - will encourage JSAP members to submit their high quality work to the journals in even greater volume. I believe that our content, together with IOP’s expertise as a specialised publisher, will help us achieve mutual success."
Olaf Ernst (pictured), Commercial Director of IOP Publishing said of the new agreement: "Everyone at IOP is delighted to have the opportunity to work so closely with JSAP. The partnership is a natural fit between two thriving, forward looking society publishers in the field of physics. Each organisation brings unique strengths to the collaboration - the journals will add even greater depth to IOP’s coverage of the applied physics area and in exchange we offer significant physics publishing expertise and expanded global readership for authors publishing within the JSAP journals."
