Metro appoints new Commercial Director

Metro has announced the appointment of a new Commercial Director, Matt Teeman – currently Managing Director of Advertising at Immediate Media.

The newly created role is central to Metro’s investment in its commercial operation, and reports directly to Linda Grant, Managing Director. Matt (pictured) will have responsibility for all advertising and direct to consumer revenues across the expanding Metro business.

Three additional new roles have been created as part of the newly organised commercial team - Investment Director (Grant Woodthorpe), Head of Agencies (Bridget Stanley) and Creative Director (Sophie Robinson) – all of whom will report into Matt Teeman.

The new organisational structure is targeted at achieving growth through the enhanced delivery of marketing solutions to clients and broadening Metro’s revenue streams in a way that goes beyond traditional paid-for client advertising.

Matt Teeman brings over 25 years’ experience in the UK media industry to Metro, and a wealth of skills gained from selling across magazines, newspapers, online and mobile.

In 1990 Matt started his career at IPC and Mirror Group Newspapers, before joining BBC Worldwide. During his time here he was responsible for revenues across the then second largest circulating magazine in the UK, the Radio Times. He then moved on to become a director of beeb.com, the BBC's first commercial online offering, where he was promoted twice in as many years, overseeing both display and eCommerce revenues.

In 2006 he was promoted to Ad Sales Director, responsible for all revenues across print and digital and joined the magazine’s board as a Divisional Director. In 2009 Matt was appointed Chairman of PPA Marketing, the marketing trade body for the magazine industry, and was presented with the PPA Chairman's award in 2011.

In November 2011, Matt was promoted to Managing Director, Advertising at newly launched business Immediate Media Co, (formerly BBC Magazines, Magicalia and Origin Publishing) after Exponent Private Equity's purchase of BBC Magazines and was responsible for all revenues across, print, online and mobile.

Linda Grant, Managing Director, Metro said; "I am delighted to announce Matt's appointment to the new role of Commercial Director. As Metro aims to expand its commercial offering into new areas, Matt brings a great wealth of experience that will help us build our strength in advertiser delivery while at the same time driving new revenue streams including those directly from our urbanite customers. Matt will be a terrific addition to the already strong leadership team within Metro's commercial operation and I have no doubt that he will be a great catalyst for accelerating our growth ambitions."

Matt Teeman said; "Metro is a business that I have long-admired for its innovation and forward-thinking. With an incredibly clear and ambitious vision, it's in a great position to challenge the way in which media brands extend their commercial operations beyond traditional advertising routes and generate more value directly from their consumers. I'm very much looking forward to working with the rest of the team at Metro and playing my part in building the success of the business."
