Motivate sign agreement to license The Week in Middle East

Dennis Publishing and Motivate, one of the Gulf’s leading publishers of magazines and books, have entered an agreement to launch a licensed edition of The Week in the Middle East.

One of the world’s most successful magazine launches of recent times, The Week filters the world’s finest opinion, news and culture into a weekly current affairs magazine.

The UK edition was launched in 1995 by ex-Sunday Telegraph deputy-editor Jolyon Connell. According to the publishers, the magazine has had 30 consecutive circulation increases to a current ABC of 197,253 and won a range of awards including Magazine of the Year. An American edition followed in 2001 and has experienced similar success with a current circulation of 525,000. Globally, The Week is one of the fastest growing print magazines of the last decade. The print magazine’s success has been recently matched by the rapid growth of its digital editions and daily news websites, www.theweek.co.uk and www.theweek.com.

The Middle East edition will bring The Week’s unique editorial approach to the region by bringing together the best of Arabic and International press into a compelling publication. Every week, a team of journalists will disseminate and provide expert commentary from over 200 news sources including regional and international newspapers and magazines, websites, blogs, and social media, says Dennis.

Ian Fairservice, Managing Director and Group Editor of Motivate comments on the launch opportunity: “In an ever fragmenting media market, it has become more important than ever for professionals to have a time efficient source of information and opinion. The benefit of The Week is that it offers a curated one-stop-shop for credible, global and regional news, business and current affairs. We identified an opportunity here in the Middle East for a title that provides an insight into our multi-lingual media landscape to give our readers an informed opinion base. We look forward to working with Dennis Publishing and are proud to be their first ever licensing partner world-wide.”

Kerin O’Connor, Chief Executive of The Week UK, said: “The Middle East is one of the fastest growing and most vibrant markets in the world and I believe The Week is well suited to the region. I am thrilled to be working with Motivate who has a superb track record. I have no doubt the magazine will be a huge success. This is our first licence for The Week and marks a new step forward in the magazine’s global development.”

The Week Middle East will be published in English and be available across all major retail outlets in the GCC and by subscription.
