Newsagents applaud Sunday cover price rises

News of cover price rises from two national newspaper publishers, accompanied by pro rata margin increases, has been warmly welcomed by the NFRN.

Both the Sunday Mirror and the Sunday People will increase their cover prices by 10p in the UK to £1.10 with effect from this weekend (Sunday September 15), while in the ROI the People will go up by 5 cents to €1.50.

On the same day the Observer will increase by 20p, with the cover price rising to £2.70 and terms maintained at 25 per cent.

Welcoming the news, NFRN National President Colin Fletcher said: “Time and again through our regular meetings with publishers we impress upon them the difficult financial circumstances in which our members are operating, so we are delighted that both Trinity Mirror and the Observer have shown that they are listening and are rewarding newsagents with this much needed boost.”

Vice president Martyn Brown added: “It really is good news and perhaps not surprising that members have been telling us they will be making every effort to promote the Sunday Mirror, People and Observer rather than some of the other Sunday papers that deliver less profit.”
