Newsagents give cautious welcome to Sun rise

This weekend’s 10p price rise on The Sun on Sunday has been given a lukewarm welcome by the NFRN.

National President Colin Fletcher said: “Ever so slowly the price of this Sunday red top is creeping up to a more acceptable level, but it is still well below that of its predecessor, the News of the World, and of its nearest rivals, which only last week increased their cover prices to more than £1.

“We are, however, pleased to see that along with the cover price rise, retail margins will increase pro-rata.”

With the cover price rising to 70p from Sunday (September 29) retailers will now receive 15.4p compared to 13.2p.
