Left Field, a new independent news, opinion and analysis platform, launched on Monday 10 July 2026 reporting the stories the mainstream media won’t touch – and telling them the way the mainstream press won’t, says the publisher.
Organised as a collective rather than a conventional newsroom, Left Field says it covers grassroots movements, trade unions and left politics in the UK and beyond, tracking developments as they happen and placing them in the context of the wider story of left and community organising.
The platform gives space to original journalism, interviews, opinion and debate, with contributions drawn from organisers working in communities, workplaces and campaigns across the country, the publisher continued. It is run by the people who take part in it, with editorial decisions shaped collectively rather than by a single editor-in-chief.
Left Field says it has no rich backers and will not seek any. Its funding comes entirely from people and organisations who support its aims.
Left Field founder Andy Walker said: “I'm really excited about the launch of Left Field. We need a publication that reports the news the mainstream media won't – and reports it in a way that’s actually relevant to people's lives.
“As a working journalist, trade unionist and campaigner, I've watched trust in the media fall away in recent years. Part of that is down to mainstream outlets peddling false balance on some stories and straightforward bias on others – not least on Gaza and migration – and all too often covering things that just don’t matter to ordinary people’s day-to-day existence.
“Left Field will be different. It's written by and for working-class people who want to see change and who are hungry for the ideas that will help them get there. We’ll go behind the headlines to uncover what's really going on – the social, cultural, political and trade union stories that rarely get a hearing in the establishment press.”
Left Field publishes at leftfield.org.uk and via its free weekly enews, with contributions open to activists, organisers and community writers.
Reflecting its commitment to transparency in independent media, Left Field says it will also be seeking membership of the Independent Media Association and will register with the independent press regulator, Impress.
