The 2013 Newspaper Awards were hosted by TV star Stephen Mangan at the London Hilton on Park Lane in front of 500 guests,
The Grand Prix which goes to the entry that has garnered the most judges points in any one category, went to Guardian Print Centre’s Bookmark entry in the Printed Innovation of the Year category, which was heralded as a “true innovation that engages the reader and makes a real impact”.
The over and under 25,000 circulation Regional Newspaper of the Year awards went to the London Evening Standard and Cambridge News respectively.
Among the big winners in the digital categories were guardian.co.uk which won Digital News Service of the Year and was described as “the benchmark for all digital news services” and Newspaper App of the Year which went to the Racing Post’s iPad app and was praised for being “an absolute must for racing fans.”
Gary Cullum, director of Newspaper Awards, says: “Our judges were amazed at the array of innovative, creative and commercial implementation of both print and on-line entries. The newspaper industry may have taken a battering over the last 12 months but it remains unbowed and it will continue to feed the nation’s hunger for news with the best quality printed and digital news media products in the world and it will continue to play a key role in a democratic Britain.”
