Newspaper Awards 2023 winners announced

The 2023 Newspaper Awards was hosted by comedian Geoff Norcott at the London Hilton Bankside in front of over 300 guests.

The Financial Times has won both the National and Weekend Newspaper of the Year categories at The 2023 Newspaper Awards. It was also awarded the weekly National Supplement/Magazine of the Year with FT Weekend Magazine. As the winner of the National Newspaper of the Year category, judges commented that the Financial Times has standout print quality that matches powerful editorial content.

The Regional Newspaper of the Year was won by The Yorkshire Post and the Weekly Newspaper of the Year was awarded for the fifth successive year to the Cambridge Independent.

The ICNN Independent Community Newspaper of the Year, a heavily subscribed category with nearly 40 entries, was won by The Peckham Peculiar.

Two newspapers published entirely for children were also recipients of major awards. The International Newspaper of the Year was won by Børneavisen from Denmark while the Niche Market winner was First News.

Gary Cullum, director of The Newspaper Awards, says: “This year The Newspaper Awards has focused solely on print. It’s a sector that’s under huge pressure but we wanted to recognise the important role that print continues to play as the industry transitions to online ouput.

“The overall quality of entries was outstanding and proves that our news media market remains one of the strongest and most diverse in the world.”
