NFRN welcomes Trinity Mirror decision

Trinity Mirror has acted on NFRN concerns over newspaper pricing and terms by rewarding retailers with a pro rata increase in the percentage retail margin to accompany a price increase on the Daily Record.

According to the NFRN: The newspaper publisher advised this week that the Saturday edition of the Daily Record in Scotland, England, Wales, Channel Isles, Isle of Man and Ulster was going up 5p to 75p.  At the same time it was revealed that with a pro rata increase applied, retailers would receive 17.625p on every copy of the paper they sell.

The increases take effect from this Saturday (4th May).

Welcoming the move, NFRN Trading Director Russ Simper said: “Just recently we held a summit with Scottish newspaper publishers where we set out our members’ concerns following a spate of cover price increases where the retailers’ margin did not increase pro rata.

“We are pleased that Trinity Mirror, who was in attendance, has heeded our calls and are rewarding newsagents accordingly.  We look forward to working with the publisher to further boost sales of the Daily Record.”
