Play magazine & website upgraded for launch of Sony PS4

Imagine Publishing's PlayStation magazine repositions itself for Sony’s PS4 launch in November.

Imagine Publishing says: First published in 1995 to coincide with the original PlayStation console launch, Play magazine has effortlessly evolved through the subsequent lifecycles of the PlayStation 2, PSP, PlayStation 3 and PSVita consoles and remains a firm favourite among hardcore PlayStation gamers.

Issue 237, on sale 7 November, has been redesigned to reposition the magazine for the PS4 generation, with the new Sony console launching in the USA on 22 November and UK on 29 November. The issue includes 53 pages of dedicated PS4 launch coverage, with a buyer’s guide to the console bundles and accessories, a breakdown of every launch game and previews of the most anticipated PS4 games on the release schedule. The issue also boasts a world exclusive review of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag on PS4.

“Play has been boldly reporting from the front lines of PlayStation gaming for nearly two decades. A new console is always a cause for excitement, so we decided to bottle that buzz in creating a next-gen magazine in look, tone and feel” commented Luke Albiges, Deputy Editor. “Regular readers can still enjoy the honest reviews, expert advice, industry access and playful tone they’ve come to expect, while a PS4-focused redesign gives the mag a crisp, clean new look and structure that will appeal to a whole new generation of gamers.”

Nick Roberts, Editor in Chief added, “PlayStation gamers have had a long love affair with Play magazine. It’s a title that has always been there, right from the genesis of PlayStation gaming. So I am very proud to be able to make Play part of the next generation of PlayStation with our fresh new look issue. The magazine covers everything PS4, while continuing to satisfy the PS3 and PSVita gamers. With a covermounted DVD of PS4 features and previews, a YouTube channel providing unique voiceovers from the team on the latest trailers and live streaming of games on Twitch – we’ve got a very strong PS4 proposition for readers.”
