PPA honours Nicholas Coleridge with Marcus Morris Award 2013

Nicholas Coleridge CBE, President of Condé Nast International and Managing Director of Condé Nast Britain, has been named as the 2013 recipient of the Marcus Morris Award.

Coleridge, a former Chairman of the PPA, received the award at a ceremony attended by more than 100 senior figures from UK publishing at the Royal Bank of Scotland’s flagship headquarters in Bishopsgate, London on October 8.

The Marcus Morris Award was established by the PPA and the National Magazine Company (now Hearst Magazines UK) in 1990 to honour and commemorate the career and contribution of the Reverend Marcus Morris OBE, who founded The Eagle comic in 1950.

Coleridge joins the alumni of Marcus Morris Award winners, among them Dame Helen Alexander, Sir David Arculus, Tony Elliott, Felix Dennis, and Lord Heseltine.

He receives an honorarium of £1,000 as well as a silver trophy in the shape of The Eagle comic emblem.

Having begun his career in local newspapers, Nicholas Coleridge became Associate Editor of Tatler from 1979–82, a columnist for The Evening Standard from 1982-86, and Editor of Harpers & Queen from 1986-89.

He joined Condé Nast in 1989 as Editorial Director and was named Managing Director in 1992. Under his direction Condé Nast Britain has launched Glamour, as well as Condé Nast Traveller, GQ Style, Wired, and Love magazines.

He was awarded the Mark Boxer Lifetime Achievement Award for Magazine Journalism in 2003, became a Director of the Press Board of Finance (PressBof) in 2006, and was named a Commander of the British Empire in 2009. Coleridge served as Chairman of the PPA from 2004 – October 2006 and remains an active PPA Board Director to this day.

Barry McIlheney, PPA CEO, said: “I am thrilled that Nicholas' name has been added to the distinguished list of visionaries and industry champions to have received the Marcus Morris Award.

"He is a huge force for good within our industry and an invaluable voice at the PPA, and we all congratulate him on this richly deserved accolade."
