Quark names Shaun Barriball VP of Mobile Products

Quark has announced that Shaun Barriball has been named Vice President of Mobile Products.

Barriball (pictured) was formerly CEO and Founder of Mobile IQ, the leading digital publishing vendor Quark acquired in April 2012. In his new role, Barriball will lead product strategy and client acquisition across Quark’s mobile publishing solutions.

Having worked in the mobile industry for 10 years, Barriball is a recognised leader in digital publishing. In 2005 he founded Mobile IQ and led the team to develop mobile Web and custom app services, as well as PressRun, the award winning tablet publishing platform. Mobile IQ customers include The BBC, The Guardian, Metro, the New England Journal of Medicine, the British Medical Journal, and other leading brands. Prior to founding Mobile IQ, Barriball served as Director of Content Services for Volantis, and held senior consulting and engineering positions with IONA Technologies and Oracle. In 2010 he was named in Global Telecoms “40 under 40.”

Ray Schiavone, President and CEO of Quark, said, “Our acquisition of Mobile IQ was strategic in a number of ways, with one being the opportunity to work with thought leaders like Shaun Barriball. He and his team have an advanced understanding of digital publishing and what it takes to be successful – both from a vendor and client perspective. On behalf of the entire Quark team, I welcome Shaun and look forward to helping enterprise publishers adopt sustainable mobile and tablet publishing strategies.”

“Joining Quark creates a tremendous opportunity for the Mobile IQ team to advance our support for PressRun clients while continuing to build innovative solutions for mobile publishing. In the short time since the acquisition we’ve started developing an ambitious roadmap for integrating our two company’s core competencies for an end-to-end dynamic and digital publishing solution,” said Barriball.

Barriball holds a 1st Class Masters Degree in Computer Systems and Software Engineering from the University of York. He is a regular speaker on the mobile applications and digital publishing circuit covering digital publishing, mobile app development, HTML5, and mobile platforms.
