Rhapsody launch Edesign editorial plug-in for Emagine

Rhapsody will be giving an exclusive preview of Edesign, the new editorial plug-in for Emagine, at the forthcoming Publishing and Media Expo show.

The Emagine production system has over 3500 users and is used by leading publishers such as IPC Media, Redwood, Cedar Communications, Illustrated London News, August Media and Publicis to create and manage the production workflow for their magazine titles.

Designed specifically for editorial departments and creative teams, Edesign is an editorial plug-in based on Adobe InDesign CS5 and above, and takes Emagine upstream into design and content creation for multiple publishing platforms.

Dependent on the permission levels established in Emagine, the designer or editor selects the page they are working on in InDesign with the Edesign plug-in running in the background. The user works on the images and copy with JPEG previews instantly populated in Emagine and uploaded to a browser. Magazine editors and contributors can view the issue from any remote location to see the designs in real-time, and, says Rhapsody, the entire publishing team can collaborate on the issue’s progress as it move through the creation stage into final production for print, tablet or mobile format.

Users are able to annotate magazine pages at any time with all images stored in Emagine’s asset library, and open read-only pages for copy and pasting into subsequent issues. Edesign also holds full versioning history, recording each time InDesign has been opened, notifying the team when changes have been made, and enabling teams to compare multiple versions of covers, editorial pages and spreads.

Les Pipe (pictured), Managing Director, Rhapsody said: “Emagine has become the de facto publishing standard for publishing departments over the last few years and we’ve continued to evolve the system based on feedback from our users. With the addition of the Edesign plug-in, the entire publishing team can now collaborate via a single integrated system for the design, content creation and production of their magazine titles across any output device.”

Rhapsody will demonstrate the Emagine production system and show live demos of the Edesign plug-in on stand A12 at Publishing & Media Expo, taking place from 26 -27 February 2013 at Earls Court Two, London.
