Telegraph announces plans for Olympics coverage

A team of more than 200 has been assembled for London 2012 to produce the most comprehensive coverage of a single event in the history of the Telegraph.

The Telegraph says: At its heart will be a daily Olympics sports supplement of up to 48 pages designed to showcase every part of this historic occasion.

For the two weeks of the Games, The Daily Telegraph business supplement will be absorbed into the main newspaper, while a separate features supplement has been created.

An extra Olympic edition of the iPad app will be published at 5 pm every day to capture the day’s action and focus on the evening ahead.

This Saturday will see a 60 page preview magazine which features a day-by-day guide to every event.

Over 1 million copies of additional newspaper distribution are anticipated during the period. It is expected 50,000 copies will be sold by a 100 strong team of street sellers who will be at all key Olympic venues, fan sites and festivals. They will be armed with free canvas bags, a restaurant guide and a guide to London during the Olympics. A further 500,000 copies are expected via retail activity at key Olympic travel points. There will be a free bottle of water with every Telegraph sold at WH Smith travel stores covering both the Olympics and Paralympics. There are 20,000 retail posters at key retailers all over Britain.

In addition there is a substantial marketing campaign with dedicated dynamic screens at London tube stations.

Coverage will be led by an unprecedented team of Olympic and Paralympic greats, with over 30 gold medals between them including Sir Steve Redgrave, Denise Lewis, James Cracknell, Steve Cram, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Ed Moses and Haile Gebrselassie.

Our website will showcase our minute-by-minute coverage, while our blog network and twitter will provide instantaneous judgements.

For those on the move, our iPhone app will highlight a dedicated Olympics section and a daily email will tell you everything you need to know.

The Sunday Telegraph will publish a weekly Sports Life supplement on each of the Sundays of the Games.
