The 2014 Newspaper Awards were hosted by radio and TV broadcaster Richard Bacon at the London Hilton on Park Lane in front of nearly 500 guests on Tuesday 1 April.
The Grand Prix which goes to the entry that has garnered the most judges points in any one category, went to the Observer’s Tech Monthly described as “a real masterclass, all round a very ‘of the moment’ supplement.
The over and under 25,000 circulation Regional Newspaper of the Year awards went to The Irish News and The Journal respectively.
Among the big winners in the digital categories was the Financial Times whose Web App took Newspaper App of the Year, while fastFT was awarded Digital News Service of the Year.
Rewarding innovation was a key factor in this year’s event, with Printed Innovation of the Year going to the Daily Telegraph and GuardianWitness winning Digital Innovation of the Year.
Gary Cullum, director of Newspaper Awards, says: “What this year’s Awards has clearly shown is that despite the challenges that inevitably lie ahead, our extraordinary industry has the vision, the technology and the skills to prosper. Looking at the range of entries that came before this year’s judges it is clear that production of world-class leading news media publishing platforms remains safe under our watch.”
