The BMJ publishes major new series

The BMJ yesterday launched a major new series that will provide in-depth reviews of important areas of clinical medicine and academic inquiry.

The first review looked at chronic and neuropathic pain, which affects around one in three people – more than the total affected by heart disease, cancer and diabetes combined, says BMJ.

Written by international experts, these 5,000 word articles will offer specialists, academics and researchers the latest thinking on a broad range of topics. The first is by Dr. Steven P. Cohen a Professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD, and Associate Professor of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Fiona Godlee, Editor in chief of The BMJ, said: “Written by leading experts within their fields, these new “state of the art” reviews will include infographics and provide an in-depth perspective covering various specialties”

Further reviews in the pipeline will look at: Drugs for Epilepsy; Chronic Migraine; Painful Diabetic Neuropathy; and Anticoagulation in Atrial Fibrillation.
