The Observer available on iPad from this Sunday

The Guardian iPad edition has been re-launched as The Guardian and Observer iPad edition, ready for the first iPad issue of The Observer to be unveiled on Sunday 16 September.

In addition to the Monday - Saturday issues of the Guardian, on Sundays the app will now include an Observer issue, featuring the main news section of The Observer, the New Review, the sport section and the Observer Magazine.

John Mulholland, editor of The Observer, said: "As the world's oldest Sunday newspaper, we're thrilled to be able to bring our journalism, ideas and debate to a new digital platform in a fresh way, enabling our unique content to be made available to both loyal readers and new audiences around the world. The look and feel of The Observer in the app is very much in line with that of the newspaper and we look forward to hearing our readers' feedback."

The Guardian and Observer iPad edition now mirrors Guardian News & Media's Monday - Sunday print offering, and is available now on Newsstand. Features of the app include:

• Full offline reading for all articles and pictures

• Stunning photojournalism and in-article galleries

• Related video content

• Swipe to navigate between sections or stories

• The ability to share stories via Facebook, Twitter and email

• Instapaper compatibility

• Related web articles, which open in an in•app browser

• Interactive advertising slots

The Guardian and Observer iPad edition is free to download from the App Store on iPad.

The Observer iPad issues will be free to all users of the app on Sunday 16 September and Sunday 23 September 2012. After that, monthly subscriptions for the full 7-day offering will be available for £11.99 per month through In-App Purchase, with current subscribers able to pay a 'top-up' subscription of £1.99 per month so they do not have to re-subscribe.

Alternatively, users can choose to remain on their existing £9.99 per month subscriptions without The Observer, or pay £6.99 per month for The Observer alone. Users pay monthly subscriptions through Newsstand on the App Store.

The Guardian and Observer iPad edition, sponsored by Channel 4, has been downloaded over a million times since it launched in October 2011, say the publishers. The app was initially available on a three-month free trial, with the £9.99 monthly subscription introduced at the beginning of 2012. The app currently has 17,606 subscribers paying £9.99 per month, in addition to new users who are currently taking advantage of the app's ongoing initial two-week free trial.
