Chioma Nnadi: “At British Vogue we have eagerly watched the passion for women’s sports grow in recent years, so it’s a pleasure to unveil this dedicated editorial space.”

British Vogue has announced the launch of The Sports Desk, a new editorial space dedicated to the stories, style and cultural impact of women’s sport in the UK and beyond. Launched in partnership with Google Pixel, The Sports Desk is a new navigation pillar on British Vogue, creating a dedicated editorial space for sports for the first time, and represents a commitment to recognising the influence, reach and relevance of women’s sport — and the people who are shaping it, added the publisher.

To mark the launch, British Vogue and Google Pixel say they have brought together an exclusive line-up of talent, through Google Pixel’s partnership with the England National Teams (in football). AJ Odudu and Rio Ferdinand headed to Wembley Stadium connected by EE and England’s training ground St. George’s Park to meet Women's Senior Team Head Coach Sarina Wiegman and players Missy Bo Kearns, Alex Greenwood, Hannah Hampton and Google Pixel ambassador Alessia Russo. With a series of social videos, content, articles and a viewing event at Wembley, Vogue and Google Pixel say they are delivering high quality football content championing the women’s game.

British Vogue’s Head of Editorial Content Chioma Nnadi said: “At British Vogue we have eagerly watched the passion for women’s sports grow in recent years, so it’s a pleasure to unveil this dedicated editorial space. The Sports Desk will champion important voices and profile the people at the heart of the action when it comes to sport, all through the unique style and culture lens of British Vogue.”

Eileen Mannion, VP of marketing at Google, added: “Google Pixel has championed the women’s game for years and we’re so excited and proud to launch The Sports Desk with British Vogue, as part of our commitment towards raising the visibility of women in sport. Together we’ve built this platform to tell the significant, yet untold, stories of the athletes, teams, clubs, and people who make women’s sport so compelling.”

Elsewhere on The Sports Desk the publisher says readers will find pieces including an interview with Naomi Girma, the most expensive player in Women’s Super League history, a study of the relationship between grief and running and a first person view on why skateboarding might beat mindfulness. There is also a range of fashion and culture pieces such as the best movies to get you in the mood for a summer of sport and notes from the Vogue editors on how to style football shirts.

Since becoming an official Partner of the England teams in 2023, Google Pixel says it has been on a mission to tackle the visibility gap across women’s football content. From spotlighting emerging talent through initiatives like Pixel FC and the Pixel FC Academy - who will feature on The Sports Desk - to supporting fresh ways of seeing and telling stories, Google Pixel is helping increase visibility on and off the pitch.
