The partnership launched with a fundraising campaign ‘Fighting to beat Children’s Cancer’ across Mail brands raising money to support Cancer Research UK’s work into cancers affecting children and young people.
The campaign will see Mail brands feature news and real-life stories to raise awareness of many of the issues around cancers affecting children and young people and how we can all come together to make a difference. Mail brands will also be encouraging people across Britain to support this very worthwhile cause.
The second stage of the partnership will start in January 2023, when the Daily Mail becomes the official media partner for Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life. Mail brands will promote Race for Life across its titles, encouraging people to sign up to take part in the events and fundraise for the charity. Daily Mail will feature in Race for Life's marketing campaign, including broadcast, and will be visible at all Race for Life events, providing an opportunity for the Daily Mail to engage with communities across the UK, say the publishers.
More than 10M people have taken part in Race for Life since the events began in 1994; collectively raising over £920M. The sponsorship will celebrate Race for Life’s 30th anniversary year and help Cancer Research UK continue to raise money for cutting-edge research into more than 200 types of cancer.
Roland Agambar, Managing Director, Mail Newspapers said: “Daily Mail is incredibly proud to partner with Cancer Research UK. Mail Newspapers have a proud history of supporting vital causes in times of crisis. Most recently our fundraising efforts with Mail Force have helped raise over £40M to secure PPE for hospital workers, computers for disadvantaged kids during lockdown and to support refugees in the war in Ukraine. Our readers and partners always show huge generosity in supporting our campaigns and we are proud to launch the campaign “Fighting to Beat Children’s Cancer” as the first part of this partnership with Cancer Research UK. It is an honour to help them raise funds to support their work into cancers affecting children and young people.
“Daily Mail is also delighted to become the official media partner for Race for Life next year - one of the country's best known event series. With cancer affecting one in two people, the sponsorship provides us with a chance to encourage participation in Race for Life events up and down the country, raising money for vital research.”
Chief executive of Cancer Research UK, Michelle Mitchell said: “We’re pleased to launch this new partnership with the Daily Mail, which offers huge opportunities to raise awareness of our life-saving work with millions of people, generate vital funds and increase the number of new supporters.
“Sadly, many people will be affected by cancer – whether that’s personally or a friend or family member – but thanks to partnerships like these, we can continue our vital work to bring about a world where everybody can lead longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer.”
