Express Newspapers head of circulation Paul Goddard has advised the NFRN that it will be matching the Telegraph’s move last month by increasing the rates for advertising inserts that weigh between 70g and 400g by 7.64 per cent.
Like the Telegraph, the Express increase is being backdated to April 1 2016 and will run until March 31 2017.
NFRN Chief Executive Paul Baxter said: “For news retailers that offer home news delivery these third party advertising inserts do bring with them additional costs so we are pleased that Express Newspapers has decided to enhance the payments rates and we will be encouraging our members to ensure they are registered for the scheme and if not to do so.
“In 2016 our members experienced significant increases in their operating costs with the introduction of the Living Wage, new increases to the minimum wage rates from October 1 and auto enrolment payments so we are grateful for this unexpected but entirely welcome Christmas present.
“Perhaps other publishers would care to inject some further festive cheer and follow suit!”
